Marking the first anniversary of Heather Heyer’s senseless death by a white supremacist during Charlottesville’s civil unrest, The Charlottesville Memorial Mandala reminds the public of the life of this peace seeker. Exhibited on the campus of The University of Virginia and at the Charlottesville City Hall, this mandala is adorned with flowers collected from my home state of Alabama. The design is highlighted by the green hills of western Virginia in the center surrounded by bloodshed ultimately giving way to light.
